This will be my attempt to help golfers that are interested in taking lessons, get the most out of their lesson experience. I have taught thousands of golfers over 16 years and have had my fair share of good and bad students. I want to provide some real-life experiences as examples. I also want to share my own insights into what I think make’s a good student.
When it comes to golf instruction there is no shortage of information regarding how to swing a golf club and play golf. There are even great resources for mental game strategies and careers have been made offering those strategies to elite player’s and selling them in books.
I want to offer advice that will help you become a better learner. To be a well-rounded golfer you want to have good swing technique and a sound mental strategy, but how do you learn those? Most seek this information online and will find an overwhelming amount of information about how to swing a golf club.
My questions are:
How do you know that the information you have read or watched is the right advice for you?
When you go out to practice how do you know if you are actually doing what you think you are?
Most golfers I observe are not aware of what they are doing during their golf swing. Most golfers that see their swing on video tell me that it is not what it “feels” like and are often shocked at how they are “actually” swinging the club.
Once you are a golfer that care’s enough about improving that you are going to take lessons, it is important that you are in the right mind set if you want to get the most out of your lesson experience.
